How much money
Two different doors share this name, and they have different minimums, different risks and different legal maps.
Facts checked on October 22, 2026
Crypto spot — buying the coin itself — has no leverage and no liquidation, which makes it sound like the gentle door. Its minimum is set instead by volatility and fees. Leveraged crypto — perpetual futures and margin — is a different product entirely, and for readers in the US and UK it is not legally on the menu at all.
Computed minimum viable capital for crypto — spot: $750 (risk term $750 · cost term $500 · about $10 a month of costs at beginner frequency). Survival floor: $188. A $50 position in a major coin, with a normal 15% move before exit, risks about $7.50. Percentage fees at the standard beginner tier plus spread run about $1.25 per round trip at that size; at eight trades a month the cost term needs $500, the risk term $750.
Computed minimum viable capital for crypto — leveraged: $2,000 (risk term $1,000 · cost term $2,000 · about $40 a month of costs at beginner frequency). Survival floor: $250. Add the liquidation engine: a venue can close your position at the worst moment of a move, automatically, and perpetual contracts charge funding every eight hours. The minimum is $2,000 — and the first question is not the amount but the map: leveraged crypto derivatives are banned for UK retail clients and are not legally offered to US retail by offshore venues. A site offering them to you anyway is telling you something about itself.
At a $10–$50 position, the round-trip fee percentage at beginner tiers is a large share of the position. You can be right about direction and still pay the exchange a toll that compounds faster than a beginner's edge. Small is not the same as cheap: in percentage terms, the smallest accounts pay the highest costs in every market on this site, and crypto's fee tiers make it the clearest example.
